The NFL season hasn’t even started, but the seat under Dennis Allen is already heating up.
The Saints’ head man has leapfrogged two others as the favorite to be the first coach fired in 2024.
Allen had +700 odds to be the first coach fired on July 17th, per SportsBetting.ag, and now sits as the clear top candidate at +275.
“It’s very rare for us to have a movement this significant during the preseason for our first head coach fired market, which we’ve been offering for the past five years or so,” sportsbook manager Robert Cooper said. “Allen isn’t even the ‘most bet’ coach at this point, but the handful of sharp wagers we’ve taken here have been on him so we have to respect that money coming in.
“Maybe they know he’s on a very short leash and they don’t like the situation, or maybe they don’t. Either way, for a coach to be this short at this point in the season seems strange. We shall see what transpires.”
Jets coach Robert Saleh, who opened as the +500 favorite to be the first coach fired, is now +900, while Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy has stayed constant at +600.
