Russell Wilson Betting Favorite To Be First Non-Rookie Quarterback Benched

Russell Wilson was named a Steelers captain this week, but that hasn’t swayed the oddsmakers’ belief that he is on shaky ground.

The veteran signal-caller is the favorite to be the first non-rookie quarterback benched, per SportsBetting.ag, as Justin Fields looms in Pittsburgh.

Wilson has struggled since leaving Seattle and the betting markets don’t have much faith he can turn things around in 2024.

Odds To Be First Non-Rookie Quarterback Benched

  • Russell Wilson +300
  • Jacoby Brissett +350
  • Gardner Minshew +400
  • Will Levis +900
  • Daniel Jones +1000
  • Geno Smith +1000
  • Baker Mayfield +1200
  • Bryce Young +1200
  • Sam Darnold +1200
  • Deshaun Watson +1400
  • Derek Carr +1600
  • Brock Purdy +2000
  • Anthony Richardson +2500
  • Kyler Murray +2500
  • Kirk Cousins +2800
  • Dak Prescott +3300
  • Trevor Lawrence +3300
  • Tua Tagovailoa +4000
  • Jordan Love +5000
  • Justin Herbert +5000
  • Matthew Stafford +5000
  • Aaron Rodgers +6600
  • Jared Goff +6600
  • Lamar Jackson +6600
  • C.J. Stroud +7500
  • Jalen Hurts +10000
  • Joe Burrow +10000
  • Josh Allen +10000
  • Patrick Mahomes +50000

Patriots veteran Jacoby Brissett is another clear candidate, as he barely held off Drake Maye for the starting job in New England, and the team could make a switch once it deems the offensive line in good enough shape to protect the rookie.

Gardner Minshew won the quarterback competition over Aidan O’Connell in Las Vegas, but a string of bad games could have coach Antonio Pierce deciding to make a change.

The odds steepen from there, as Will Levis, Daniel Jones, Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield and Bryce Young are in the next batch of candidates.

Jones is an intriguing choice at 10/1 odds as his time in New York seems to be dwindling, and the Giants could take a look at backup Drew Lock if things go south.

Deshaun Watson has a fully-guaranteed contract in Cleveland but has been terrible lately, so it’s not inconceivable the Browns make a move.

The best value on the board could be Saints quarterback Derek Carr at +1600 odds. Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler has earned glowing reviews for his play in the preseason, and coach Dennis Allen is on the hot seat as the favorite to be the first coach fired.

If New Orleans struggles early, Carr could be benched, and this payout would be a nice one.

Looking for a longshot? Jalen Hurts is the clear option among the group of extremely unlikely quarterbacks to be the first benched, as the Eagles are in win-now mode and added Kenny Pickett this offseason.

Hurts is unlikely to take a seat, but he surely has a better chance at being benched than Lamar Jackson, C.J. Stroud, Joe Burrow or Josh Allen, four quarterbacks with the same or better odds to be benched before Hurts.

Unsurprisingly, Patrick Mahomes has the longest odds to be the first none-rookie quarterback benched at 500/1 odds.
